In the spirit of imitation being the greatest form of flattery, I too am going to post a Christmas Gift Guide for this year.
You may notice a theme as all of the ingredients are connected to eating or drinking in some way (weird, right?)
So, if you have anyone on your list that loves to cook, needs to cook, or has to cook, these 5 gifts are awesome.
This Mandoline – Cheap and super sharp. Making homemade potato chips? Use this. Want a clean cut of carrots, cucumbers or onions? Use this. It is dishwasher safe too!
Thermometer– I love meat medium rare, especially since I buy pretty high quality meat. I don’t mind pink in my salmon either. Some of the rest of the fam? They don’t do as well so I use this thermometer when I want to “prove” that it is cooked to temperature and it is safe to eat. The remote feature is nice since I typically use it on my Traeger wood pellet grill. This one is cool too.
Toddy Cold Brew – I have been drinking cold coffee (as my dad puts it) for years now. I typically steep it in some other vessel but recently I was given an Amazon gift card so decided I would finally purchase the Toddy cold brew system that I have been eye-balling for a couple of years. A little overkill? Yes, I suppose so, but it sure makes it easier! Did you know that cold-water extraction reduces the acidity of brewed coffee by 67%?
V60 Pour Over – Another hipster coffee brewing method. My favorite for Saturdays and Sundays. A little slower, a few more steps, but a HUGE difference in taste compared to my paper cone filter drip machine I got at Costco a few years back.
Applejack – Thank you @ruhlman for sharing this apple whiskey on a blog post a long while back. This family, Laird and Co., has been making apple whiskey since the American Revolution! It is so simple and so delicious even if it is a tad hard to find in Washington state. Check this post out for some recipes I found and am known to partake in.
There you have it. Irish Mike’s gift guide for 2015! Make someone happy will you?
