First visit to Chaco Canyon Organic Cafe was wonderful! I must admit that I was nervous I was going to be absorbed into a pretentious, I-am-smarter-and-better-than-you hippie culture but what I found was an extremely warm, open and delicious experience. Washington’s first certified organic cafe where 90-97% of their ingredients are certified organic throughout the year (in certain months, certified organic ingredients simply not available in the North).
I had the Thai Peanut Bowl which was essentially swimming rama (fresh spinach smothered with Thai peanut sauce over rice) that was completely vegetarian (shocking for this carnivore, I know). Also ordered was the veggie enchiladas which were absolutely amazing by the way. Flax seed “tortillas” wrapped over mixed “spicy” vegetables and avocado. I was blown away how such simple ingredients, again with no meat, could taste so great.
Chaco Canyon proudly serves up a daily Raw Food menu and has several vegan sandwiches, hot soups and baked goods in addition to their specialty coffee, tea drinks, smoothies, and build-your-own juices.
Whether your a vegetarian/vegan or not, Chaco Canyon is absolutely worth going to at either their U District or West Seattle locations.
How to get there: Chaco Canyon Cafe, U District: 4757 12th Ave NE, Seattle, WA or West Seattle: 3770 SW Alaska St., Seattle, WA
